About BansgaonBansgaon is a beautiful town located in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Hindi, Urdu and Bhojpuri were the chief spoken languages of the people here. The town is mostly populated by the Shrinet Rajputs so the city is popular for Thakurs as they were known as one of the powerful Rajputs in the country who rules Bansgaon.
The Chauhan kingdom also tried their level best to excel Rajputs from power in Bansgaon and establish their power but never succeeded against the Shrinet Rajputs. The entire district was once a thick forest where sages lived in their ashrams and taught values of life to their pupils from many parts of India. One among the sage was Vishwamitra. It is also said Lord Rama also visited the ashram of sage Vishwamitra to get his guidelines.
The popular localities in the town are the Dadirawat, Balua Urf Gopalpur, Saonr and Bharwalia Baboo. The town lies 27 km away from the district headquarters Gorakhpur towards the south. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people here, agro-based industries like oil mining, wheat flour mills and separating dal from arhar also operates in the town. The town is popular for woollen blankets. Bansgaon has experienced weavers blankets.
Administration in BansgaonThe town operates under the Gorakhpur division of administration. The whole of Gorakhpur division is controlled by the division commissioner. Sh. J.P. Gupta is the current division commissioner of Gorakhpur division. It is a Tehsil under the Gorakhpur district, also the Tehsil headquarters located in the town. On the occasion of Asvina all Rajputs in the town assemble in Kul Devi of Srinets temple which one of the ancient temple of Rajputs and offer sacrifice to commemorate their victory against the Chauhans to try to invade their territory. Another popular tradition followed by the Shrinet Rajput is observed on the occasion of Vijay Dasami on the day the Rajputs in the town gather in Goddess Durga temple and offer their blood as offering to the deity for the healthy-living of the town. This traditional practice is followed for many centuries till date and is performed only by the men in a family. Religious practice in Hanuman temples is also popular in the town.
